N°12 Sunstruck VS. Classic; Q&A with Product Development
Behind every great product is a visionary mind (cue Sivan!) — and a magician who knows what it takes to bring ideas to life (cue Jacquelyn!). With years of experience in product development, she’s helped transform hundreds of concepts into market-ready innovations, which she applied when helping develop N°12 Bronzing Face Drops in SUNSTRUCK.
In this exclusive Q&A, she breaks down the key differences between classic vs. sunstruck sharing her insights on what sets them apart and how thoughtful development leads to market success. Let’s dive in!
Q. Can you explain how DHA works?
A. DHA is sugar-derived compound that interacts with the amino acids on the surface of the skin to produce a darkening effect.
Q. What makes N°12 the cleanest face tanner?
A. Our face drops use minimal ingredients, unlike other face self-tanners on the market. In order to keep our face drops as clean as possible, we only used the necessary ingredients to deliver a beautiful and customizable tan. We also omitted fragrance from our face tanners, as that is a common irritant for sensitive skin.
Q. How does N°12 Classic tan with a clear formula?
A. Even though many self-tanners are tinted, DHA itself is actually colorless - it doesn't need a bronzer or dye to work. This is one example of our face drops being cleaner than others; rather than adding an unnecessary ingredient that doesn’t *actually* add color to your skin, we kept ours clear to make our face drops as clean as possible.
Q. How long does the shimmer from N°12 Sunstruck last on the skin?
A. The tint and subtle shimmer in Sunstruck washes off, however your tan continues to develop. We typically see results last for up to 7 days, unless you’re continuously applying face drops to maintain your color.
Q. What was the process of developing N°12 Sunstruck like?
A. We went through 9 versions before we finally approved the formula. Sivan wanted to ensure the undertones matched the rest of our assortment, which leans a bit more olive-toned to give the most natural looking results. We also wanted to perfect the level of shimmer so it wasn’t too much but not too subtle either. To really nail down the tint, we spent a day at our lab in Los Angeles and kept tweaking the color until we reached the final version! Sometimes it feels a bit like a science experiment but in the best possible way!
Q. Did the face drops undergo any testing?
A. All of our products undergo stability testing, which tests the formula under different conditions. This ensures that our formulas remain stable within certain temperatures. We also perform compatibility testing to make sure our formulas work within the packaging we choose. Testing takes months to complete, so we have to account for this when planning our product launches each year.
